Guy De Maupassants short story The Necklace remarkably demonstrates how misfortune force out lead to self improvement by means of the character Mathilde Loisel. Madame Mathilde was one of those beautiful and delightful young ladies with not very many high expectations, achievements, and no way to be accepted into the elaborate smart set and lifestyle in which she finds herself daydreaming about day and night. In Guy De Mauspassants The Necklace, the author examines the theme of how learning a difficult lesson about honesty can impact someone for the rest of their life. The author also examines the theme through the use of his title, the characters who act out the events, and the plot.
